Holmes List Barristers welcomes Randall Kune to our List.
Randall has recently returned to the Bar after serving as a Magistrate at the Children’s Court of Victoria from 2018 to 2024. There, he heard and determined a variety of complex and challenging cases in the areas of child protection, family violence, and youth crime.
He first signed the Bar Roll in 1999 and has practised in criminal law, child protection and family law, and civil and administrative law. He holds an Indictable Crime Certificate and has been a Nationally Accredited Mediator.
Randall has significant experience – both as an advocate and judicial officer – in the litigation of significant disputes involving complex factual and legal issues such as:
- Extensive conflicting medical and scientific opinion evidence;
- Sensitive and complicated allegations of family violence, sexual abuse, and other major trauma;
- Parties or witnesses with disabilities such as impaired cognitive functioning, mental illness, deafness or hearing and visual impairment;
- Clients, parties and witnesses from a variety of cultural and social backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, as well as government departments.
- Leading evidence from and cross-examining child witnesses.
He is co-author of the critically acclaimed Advocacy Manual: The Complete Guide to Persuasive Advocacy, published by the Australian Advocacy Institute. He is a trained and experienced Advocacy Instructor with the Australian Advocacy Institute (AAI), having taught advocacy for over 20 years to various groups, including Bar Readers, Solicitors, and Undergraduate and Postgraduate law students.
In addition to his practice, Randall is a Senior Fellow at Monash University Law School.
