It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our much-loved Head Clerk, Paul Holmes, who passed away last week with his family by his side after a long battle with ill health.
Paul was a source of unwavering support, guidance, and friendship to us all. A trusted colleague and mentor, he dedicated over 30 years to the profession, building Holmes List into one of the most respected in Victoria. Paul began his career as a court clerk, gaining invaluable knowledge of court administration before founding Holmes List in 1992. Under his leadership, what started with 30 members grew to nearly 200, a testament to his dedication and expertise.
Paul was known not just for his professionalism but for the relationships he built and the kindness he showed to those around him. He was there for List members in times of need—whether resolving a difficult situation with an instructing solicitor, ensuring a last-minute brief reached its destination, or simply offering a moment of humour and camaraderie in the Clerk’s office. Mondays were always a lot easier after a Collingwood win.
Never one to complain, Paul faced his illness with quiet resilience. We will deeply miss his calm approach, always knowing what to do and what to say. His presence will be profoundly missed. Paul’s integrity is instilled in us, and we are committed to continuing his legacy.
We wish to thank everyone who has reached out to us over the past week with kind messages and support. Please know it has been a great comfort to us and is helping us get through this difficult time.
