Raj Bhattacharya is a passionate and committed defence barrister. He is very experienced in criminal law, having practiced since 2007.
He is a VLA Criminal Trial Preferred Barrister and has an Indictable Crime Certificate. He regularly appears unled in jury trials.

In 2022, he assisted at the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability. He is currently a member of the Victorian Bar Indigenous Justice Committee.
Before being called to the Bar, he was a Senior Criminal Lawyer at the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service, where he ran numerous matters in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal. He has also been employed at Victoria Legal Aid and at a generalist practice in Warrnambool.
In 2006 he worked at the Gulf Region Advocacy Centre in Houston, a specialist legal centre that represented persons who were awaiting execution in Texas.
