Nikhil Sood practices in criminal, family and civil law.

He has extensive advocacy experience across a broad range of criminal matters. Nikhil regularly appears in the Magistrates’ and County Courts and has instructed in complex trials in the Supreme Court. He has conducted contested hearings, committals, and appeals, and his practice also extends to intervention order matters and quasi-criminal jurisdictions.

Nikhil also has experience in family law, including parenting, child protection and property matters. He has assisted in Royal Commissions and has a civil practice that spans personal injury, statutory compensation, and commercial disputes.

Before coming to the Bar, Nikhil was a Senior Lawyer at Victoria Legal Aid, where he managed complex casework, appeared daily as duty lawyer, and supervised junior practitioners. He was previously a Senior Associate at Emma Turnbull Lawyers, conducting a high volume of criminal cases throughout Victoria. Earlier in his career, he worked with Keypoint Law and Maurice Blackburn, gaining valuable experience in commercial litigation, civil disputes and class actions.

Nikhil also has experience in human rights research and international policy, including work with Inner Melbourne Community Legal and the New Zealand Government at the United Nations in New York.

He holds a Master of Laws from the University of Melbourne and a Bachelor of Laws (Hons)/Bachelor of Arts from the University of Auckland.

Nikhil is a member of the Criminal Bar Association of Victoria.
