Katie is an experienced defence advocate who accepts briefs in all areas of criminal law and quasi-criminal law across metropolitan and regional courts.
Katie has been selected as a participant in Victoria Legal Aid’s 2024 Trial Counsel Development Program.
Katie regularly appears in a broad range of matters across the indictable and summary jurisdictions including contested hearings, committals, bail applications, appeals, contravention proceedings and plea hearings. She appears in the Koori and Drug Court divisions of the Magistrates’ and County Courts. She has also appeared in bail applications in the Supreme Court.
Prior to coming to the Bar, Katie practiced as a Senior Lawyer at Victoria Legal Aid, where she appeared in court daily. She commenced her career at VLA’s Ringwood office before moving into the Advocacy Team, in the Criminal Law Melbourne division, where she was based from 2016-2020.
In addition to extensive appearance work, Katie maintained a high case load of summary and indictable matters, both state and Commonwealth, and worked on a wide variety of matters including homicides, serious assaults, serious sex offences, drug related offences and matters arising under the Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act 1997.
