Katie accepts briefs in all areas of criminal law and quasi-criminal law across metropolitan and regional courts.
Katie is an experienced defence advocate who appears in a broad range of matters in the Magistrates’, Children’s and County Court jurisdictions including plea hearings, bail applications, contested hearings, contravention proceedings, committals and appeals. She appears in both the Magistrates’ and County Court Koori and Drug Court Divisions and Supreme Court bail applications.
Prior to coming to the Bar, Katie worked as a Senior Lawyer at Victoria Legal Aid, where she appeared in court daily. She commenced her career at VLA’s Ringwood office before moving into the Advocacy Team, in the Criminal Law Melbourne division, where she was based from 2016-2020.
In addition to extensive appearance work, Katie maintained a high case load of summary and indictable matters, both state and Commonwealth, and worked on a wide variety of matters including homicides, serious assaults, serious sex offences, drug related offences and matters arising under the Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act 1997.
