John Moore has practised in criminal, public and common law for over 10 years. In 2017 he was selected to join the Victoria Legal Aid Trial Counsel Development Program. He is a VLA Preferred Trial Barrister.
Prior to joining the bar John worked at the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency (NAAJA) in Katherine as a managing solicitor and Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) as a senior solicitor. He has appeared in trials in the Supreme Court and County Court (with a leader), appeals in the Court of Appeal (with a leader), committals, contested hearings, bail applications and pleas. In 2014 he was accredited by the Law Institute of Victoria as a specialist in criminal law.
John is experienced in conducting merits review matters at VCAT and the AAT and has advised in judicial review proceedings. Before practising in Victoria John worked in general civil litigation in Hobart for three years. He acted for the Motor Accident Insurance Board (the Tasmanian equivalent of the TAC), professionals subject to disciplinary proceedings, and local government clients in regulatory proceedings.
John read with Sarah Leighfield (now Judge Leighfield). His senior mentor was Chris Winneke QC.
