John Moore practises in criminal and public law. 

He is available to advise and appear in all stages of criminal matters. In 2017 he was one of six people selected for the Trial Counsel Development Program, where he was led in murder trials. He holds an Indictable Crime Certificate and is on the Victoria Legal Aid preferred barrister list.

He has appeared and advised in a broad range of judicial review and merits review matters at the Federal Court, the AAT, VCAT, and the MHT. He is regularly briefed to appear in supervision matters under the Serious Offenders Act 2018, and has also been engaged to appear in commissions of inquiry.

Prior to joining the bar John was a solicitor for 9 years. He worked in private practice, in Victoria Legal Aid’s Commonwealth Entitlements team and at the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency (NAAJA) where he managed the Katherine office. As a solicitor he conducted a significant merits review practice and a diverse criminal practice. In 2014 he was accredited by the Law Institute of Victoria as a specialist in criminal law.

John read with Judge Sarah Leighfield. His senior mentor was Chris Winneke KC.

John currently serves on the committees of the Criminal Bar Association and Gorman Chambers.
