Damon comes to the Bar with 12 years’ experience as an advocate, and practises primarily in criminal law and intervention orders. He accepts both defence and prosecution briefs for summary and indictable matters, and appears at all stages of proceedings, including bail applications, contest mentions, summary hearings, pleas, committal hearings, trials and appeals. Damon also appears at all stages of intervention order proceedings, including mentions, directions hearings and contested hearings.
Prior to coming to the Bar, Damon was engaged by Victoria Police as a Prosecutor, regularly appearing in contested hearings in the Magistrates’ Court for a broad range of offence types, including traffic, drugs, burglary and theft, property offences, deceptions, assaults, family violence and sex offences. He was one of the few members of the Victoria Police Prosecutions Division (Melbourne) who appeared in sex offence hearings on a regular basis, working with both child and adult complainants. He was also sought after for advice regarding questions of evidence and admissibility in various criminal matters.
Due to his years of prosecuting on behalf of Victoria Police, Damon has a thorough knowledge of the organisation’s policies, procedures, practices and processes.
