Mark Teare has worked as a Senior Lawyer in the Victorian Office of Public Prosecutions, the NSW Office of Public Prosecutions and the Crown Prosecution Service in Liverpool, England. In the course of his prosecutorial work Mark has appeared as an advocate before the Supreme, County and Magistrates’ courts in various jurisdictions.
He has had much trial experience and was a Local Court advocate in NSW, appearing in all hearings.
He has prepared and had carriage of complex County and Supreme Court matters. Just prior to being called to the Bar, he was prosecuting in northern Victoria and appeared before both the County and Magistrates’ Courts in Bendigo, Shepparton and Wangaratta.
Mark worked in private practice in Macquarie Street, Sydney, where his practice included crime, medical negligence and insurance law in the Local, County and Supreme Courts. There he represented plaintiffs’ in actions arising from motor vehicle accidents, through to actions arising from surgery and nervous shock. In the insurance area he represented insurers in the aviation and building industries, and he litigated matters arising from light plane crashes. In crime he represented clients charged with murder through to child sexual assault.
He has worked with members of disadvantaged groups, and has spent two years in central NSW, working in the criminal law in Dubbo, Bourke and many other central NSW country towns. This built upon his knowledge gained during his Social Science degree in dealing with people from diverse backgrounds.
He was a Senior Lawyer in the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption and the NSW Police Integrity Commission. He has appeared as Counsel Assisting, and has a vast experience with legislation relating to covert investigation ranging from telephone interception warrants, listening device warrants to controlled operations.
He is experienced in assessing the Public Interest in applications to access confidential material and has appeared regularly before the courts in relation to subpoenae.
Prior to coming to law in 1989 he worked in the petrol-chemical, food, marine and mining industries, as a timed served Instrument Technician. He is fully conversant with engineering drawings and techniques, and has gained a practical understanding of all types of engineering control systems.
